The Triumph Scrambler 400 has quickly become one of the most searched mid-capacity motorcycles in India. Positioned as a stylish yet practical scrambler, this bike brings together Triumph’s classic design DNA and modern engineering in an accessible 400cc package. Built in partnership with Bajaj Auto, the Scrambler 400 is aimed at riders who want premium branding, everyday usability, and light off-road capability in one motorcycle. The Triumph Scrambler 400 stands out with its unmistakable scrambler silhouette. It features a round LED headlamp, muscular fuel tank with Triumph badging, high-mounted exhaust, and a tall stance that gives it a rugged personality. The upright riding posture, wide handlebars, and long-travel suspension make it suitable for both city riding and broken roads.

Triumph has focused heavily on build quality. From metal switchgear to neatly finished panels, the Scrambler 400 feels premium, which is a key reason it attracts riders upgrading from 250cc or 300cc motorcycles. The bike is available in multiple colour options, including Phantom Black, Carnival Red, and Matt Khaki Green, adding to its visual appeal.

Engine and Performance

Powering the Triumph Scrambler 400 is a 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that complies with BS6 emission norms. This engine produces around 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring a slipper and assist clutch.

On the road, the engine is tuned for strong low- and mid-range performance, making it easy to ride in city traffic while remaining comfortable on highways. The refined power delivery and smooth gearbox make the Scrambler 400 suitable for daily commuting as well as weekend rides.

Suspension, Wheels, and Braking

The Scrambler 400 is built to handle varied Indian road conditions. It gets long-travel suspension, with upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock setup that absorbs bumps effectively. The bike rides on a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel, which helps maintain stability on rough roads and gravel patches.

Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, supported by dual-channel ABS. Triumph has also provided the option to switch off certain rider aids, making the bike more adaptable for light off-road use.

Features and Technology

Despite its retro look, the Triumph Scrambler 400 comes with modern features that enhance everyday usability. These include full LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster with essential riding information, traction control, and ride-by-wire throttle. The bike also offers a comfortable seat height of around 835mm, which suits taller riders and adds to its commanding road presence.

Mileage and Practicality

As per BikeWale data, the Triumph Scrambler 400 delivers a real-world mileage of around 27 kmpl, which is reasonable for a performance-oriented 400cc motorcycle. The 13-litre fuel tank ensures a decent riding range, making it suitable for longer trips without frequent fuel stops.

With a kerb weight of approximately 185 kg, the Scrambler 400 feels planted at high speeds while remaining manageable in city conditions.

Price and Competition in India

The Triumph Scrambler 400 is priced at around ₹2.60 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most competitively priced premium motorcycles in its category. It goes up against rivals such as the Royal Enfield Scram 411, KTM 390 Adventure, and BMW G 310 GS.

What gives the Scrambler 400 an edge is its combination of premium branding, strong performance, and everyday comfort, all at a price that undercuts some of its European competitors.
