MG India Future Launch Plans: IM6 Electric SUV in 2026, New Creta Rival Coming in 2027

MG IM6 Electric SUV

After receiving a strong response for the Windsor EV in India, JSW MG Motor India has started expanding its product portfolio with a mix of electric vehicles, hybrid models, and new petrol-powered SUVs. The company recently introduced its premium retail network called MG Select along with two flagship models — the MG Cyberster electric roadster and the MG M9 luxury MPV.

Looking ahead, MG is planning to launch several new models in India over the next few years. These include a high-performance electric SUV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, and a new midsize SUV that will replace some of the company’s existing models. Let’s take a detailed look at the upcoming MG vehicles expected to arrive in the Indian market.

MG IM6 Premium Electric SUV Expected in 2026

One of the most anticipated launches from MG is the IM6 premium performance electric SUV. This model was showcased earlier at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 and is likely to be introduced in India through the MG Select dealership network.

The IM6 is part of the Intelligent Mobility (IM) brand owned by SAIC Motor and will be positioned as a high-end electric SUV in MG’s lineup. Reports suggest that the vehicle could be priced around ₹60 lakh and may launch in India sometime in 2026.

Inside the cabin, the IM6 is expected to offer a highly futuristic interior with a massive 26.3-inch panoramic display along with a 10.5-inch vertical touchscreen. Other highlights may include advanced LED lighting, LiDAR-based ADAS technology, and an aerodynamic design for improved efficiency.

The SUV is built on an advanced 800V electrical architecture and may come with battery capacity of up to 100 kWh. In the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, the vehicle could deliver up to 778 bhp and 802 Nm of torque. It is expected to offer a driving range of around 555 km and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately 3.4 seconds.

MG Starlight 560 Hybrid SUV Launch Likely by 2026

Another upcoming model from MG could be the Wuling Starlight 560, a new SUV expected to arrive in India with plug-in hybrid and electric powertrain options. The vehicle is reportedly undergoing testing and may debut in the Indian market by the end of 2026.

The Starlight 560 will be available in both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. Internally codenamed “520,” this SUV is expected to compete with popular models such as the Mahindra XUV7XO and the Tata Harrier, along with their upcoming electric versions.

Dimensionally, the SUV measures about 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,755 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. The plug-in hybrid version is expected to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. This setup could deliver around 100 km of pure electric driving range.

Meanwhile, the fully electric version may come with a 56.7 kWh battery pack capable of delivering around 500 km of range on a single charge.

New MG Mid-Size SUV to Rival Creta by 2027

MG is also planning to introduce a new midsize SUV in India by 2027 that will replace the existing MG Astor and MG ZS EV models. These vehicles have not achieved the same level of success as the Windsor EV in the Indian market.

The upcoming SUV is expected to be based on the global MG One platform and could be offered in both petrol and electric versions. It will likely be built on the SIGMA platform developed by SAIC Motor.

The petrol-powered version will directly compete with popular SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Tata Sierra. On the other hand, the electric version will rival EV models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Curvv EV.

Conclusion

MG is clearly preparing for a major expansion in the Indian automotive market over the next few years. With the introduction of premium electric vehicles, hybrid SUVs, and new midsize models, the company aims to strengthen its position in both the EV and conventional SUV segments.

If these upcoming models perform well in the market, MG could become an even stronger competitor to leading SUV brands in India.
